Power-aware Proportionally-fair Realtime scheduler

GENERAL : The main aim of the project is to explore the possibility of processor shutdown and Dynamic Voltage scaling in hard-realtime systems with multiple processors, to reduce the power loss due to ideal processor time, all this while keeping the scheduler ERFair. The main idea behind the approach is to utilize the system slack greedily at appropriate time to maximize the CPU shutdown interval.



STATUS :
  • A novel modification of the ERFair algorithm had been developed to support processor shutdown for multiple processors.
  • This is the paper for the preliminary work completed in this project(submitted to Journal of Systems and Software) .


FUTUTRE WORK:
  • We plan to further modify the algorithm to support DVS technique, for further improve power efficiency
RESOURCES: RESULTS:
  • The new algorithm developed can achieve as much as 10 times the shutdown interval achievable by contemporary schedulers.
