About me

I come from Barasat, which is a large city a few kilometers north of Kolkata. After getting an introduction with the viciuos world of education early in Barasat itself, we moved to Purulia, where I spent wonderful two years of my life. Then I came back to Barasat and after making some wonderful friends in Barasat PCS High school, one fine Sunday morning, I landed on Narendrapur, which, till now, is the most auspicious moment of my life. My Narendrapur experience was truly fabulous and the eight years I spent there studying, playing and making lot of fun gave me the most cherished moments of my life. Discipline was rigorous and extreme, and so was the fun braking it. My little bit of elocutionary skill was greatly appreciated there for no reason known to me, and I fully exploited that participating in and arranging every possible bit of cultural activities like debate, drama, recitation and lot more. I came out of Narendrapur in 2005, but still my heart belongs there :-).

After Narendrapur, JU was even more fun. I made a lot of good friends there. We learned Computer Science together and did a lot of other things which are better left unrevealed (it's not up to that what you may be thinking ;-)). But apart from fun, I will remember those days for the pain I got as the persons I loved most on the earth, my dadu and dida, left me. On the whole, my JU life was good and I miss those days and friends.

Leaving a job and coming to Kgp was one of the hardest decisions I ever made and I am really thankful to my fate and my parents whose constant persuasion helped me move here. Even the hardest Kgp days in the first two semesters passed like a joyride and all credit goes to the amazing company I get here. Never thought even growing older can be such a fun. I just hope it continues to be what it is.

My interests apart from academics are food, literature, movies and music. I am a real gourmet and love to eat and enrich my culinary skills. i am a big Hilsa buff and a great watermelon lover.

I love to read poetry and prose, mostly Bengali. I am a great enthusiast in reading Bengali classics and boast on an amazing collection of literary pieces from Tagore, Bankimchandra, Tarashankar, Bibhutibhusan and Manik Bandopadhyay. My most favorite writer is Manik Bandopadhyay and I truly believe he deserved a Nobel. My favourite poet is Shakti Chattopadhyay. In English front, I am really not advanced but trying to catch up. I have read a few novels by Arthur Hailey , Sidney Sheldon, Dan Brown, Mario Puzo and Paulo Coelho. Of late I have started crawling into intimidating, paragraph-like-sentence boasting works of Salman Rushdie. Wish me Luck :P.

I love watching Bengali oldies but not too savvy with them. Same goes with Bollywood. I usually watch Hollywood stuff but lately was introduced to some maestros of the medium like Kubrik, Kurosawa, Majidi, Bunuel, Almodovar and a lot to name. Among bengali film makers, I love Ray, Ghatak and Rituporno Ghosh. Rituporno's characteristic pattern, contemplative, not too subtle and languid, fascinates me.

I listen mostly to instrumentals and Rabindra Sangit.

P.S. I am an ardent fan of Sourav Ganguly. On the day he retired, I was so moved, that I dedicated a poem to him, which can be seen here.
