Entrepreneurial Ventures

For decades, deep technical and research expertise from India has largely flowed outward into products that were built and owned elsewhere. If India is to be a genuine architect of its digital future rather than a downstream consumer of it, we must be willing to step out of the lab and create the tools, platforms and policy frameworks that let India develop, own and export its own technological capability. With the changing geo-political landscape and the push towards technological self-reliance, there has never been a better moment for this translation to happen.

Encouragingly, IITs, like their leading global peers, have grown more open to enabling this shift, allowing faculty to take up entrepreneurial roles alongside their academic responsibilities. This is a welcome recognition that building products, institutions, and partnerships is itself a legitimate form of service: to the institution that trained us, to the country that needs sovereign technological capability, and to a world that stands to benefit from ideas incubated in Indian classrooms and research labs. The ventures below are my own attempt at this translation - each addressing a different facet of the same goal, from tools that strengthen research and scholarship, to platforms that connect India's entrepreneurs with capital and mentorship, to policy dialogue that shapes how India engages with the world as an equal, sovereign technology power.
