For decades, deep technical and research expertise from India has largely flowed outward — into papers, patents, and products built and owned elsewhere. That is beginning to change. With a maturing research ecosystem, growing domestic capital, and a policy push towards self-reliance in critical technologies, there has never been a better time for researchers to step out of the lab and translate their expertise into product startups. Doing so is not just an entrepreneurial opportunity — it is a way to build tools that strengthen India's technological sovereignty, while creating products that can compete and serve users globally. The ventures below reflect my own attempt at making this translation from research to real-world impact.
