About Me

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kharagpur, where my research focuses on Responsible AI, Social Computing, and Digital Public Infrastructure. Earlier, I was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Delhi, with additional affiliation to the School of Artificial Intelligence. In 2022, I was inducted as a Young Associate of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), one of India's highest recognitions for early-career engineers. Before IIT Delhi, I spent two and half years as a postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems (MPI-SWS) in Germany. I received my Ph.D. from IIT Kharagpur, jointly supervised by Prof. Niloy Ganguly (IIT Kharagpur) and Prof. Krishna Gummadi (MPI-SWS). My doctoral work was recognized with the prestigious Prime Minister's Fellowship for Doctoral Research and Google India PhD Fellowship. I have also worked at Microsoft Research for two years.

Beyond academia, I lead several initiatives that bridge research, innovation, and real-world impact. I am the head of the Max Planck Partner Group on Responsible AI, and lead the REsponsible AI Lab (REAL). I am the founding Principal Investigator of Data Hub KGP, and also serve as Co-Principal Investigator of the National Digital Library of India, the largest digital library in India. As a natural extension of my research, I actively pursue technology entrepreneurship, serving as Co-Founder of Latexio and a Partner at CoCreate Labs and STRIDE-EUI. Through these academic and entrepreneurial efforts, I strive to translate cutting-edge AI research into technologies and systems that create meaningful societal impact. Research Philosophy

My research agenda is inherently interdisciplinary, and real-world driven. The problems I study usually have both an algorithmic aspect and a societal aspect. A common thread in my research lies in collecting and analyzing large scale data from online systems to understand whether there is any cause for concern, and then develop mechanisms to eliminate or reduce the impact. The tools and theories that I often use in my works come from Machine Learning, Theoretical Computer Science, Computational Social Choice, Network Science, Social Welfare and Behavioral Economics.
