How to use the Portal

The Dashboard contains three tabs,
  1. Keywords
  2. Topic
  3. Comparisons

Keywords

This tab is meant to display information of keywords (Unigrams and Bigrams). Nice pie charts and line charts shows relevant information to analyze the counts and relative frequencies of n-grams.

To retrieve and display the information, one has to select the type of the keyword from a dropdown select list which have options Unigrams and Bigrams. As soon as the type is selected, another select list, which contains options of Year duration, gets ready. Selecting any year duration from this list asks the user to select the number of keywords to be displayed (in another select list). Select the number from this list and it will render a colorful Pie-Chart for the counts of n-grams occurred in the selected interval.

When the page is loaded for first time or refreshed, by default the options ‘Unigrams’, last option in duration list which generally is ‘2011-2013’ and ‘Show 10’ is selected and the Pie-Chart is plotted accordingly.

The pie chart is hover-able and clickable. Once mouse is taken over any element of the pie chart, a tooltip shows the keyword and the percentage of that present in the pie-chart (not in the database). Clicking on any segment plots a line chart which displays duration-wise information of the corresponding n-gram. The green line shows absolute count (Left y-axis) and the blue line shows percentage (Displayed on right y-axis) of that keywords in the year duration (displayed on X-axis).

Topic

Frequent topics extracted from papers of selected year/year duration. Again, this too is hover-able and clickable. Clicking on any segment plots two canvases. One displays a word cloud, in which font-size is set according to the keyword weight in the topic. Another plot (below the pie chart) shows a line chart displaying year-wise counts of that topic. This chart shows different lines for Total count, Count of Papers written by males, those by females, and by Indians and by Chinese. Scale of total count is displayed on right y-axis.This tab is to analyze the topics extracted using Latent Drichilet Allocation on the database of the papers. Very similar to the Keywords tab, it gives you sequential option to select and then displays a pie chart corresponding to count of the most.

Comparisons

This tab shows various plots to compare the research works done by Indian and Chinese scientists.
