M.Tech Project

AREA :  Cryptography

GUIDE :  Dr. Debdeep Mukhopadhyay

TOPIC :  Design of Light-weight Block Cipher

BRIEF IDEA :  With the advent of the era of pervasive computing, various smart devices such as RFID tags, smart cards, and wireless sensor nodes are finding their use in people’s life at a staggering rate. These devices possess very limited resources in terms of memory, computing power, and battery supply. Many applications running on these devices will contain sensitive data and thereby, there will be a need of cryptographic systems to ensure it’s security. The cryptographic schemes implemented on these systems will have to cope with the trade-offs between security, cost, and performance. It is genarally easy to optimise any two of these but very difficult to optimise all three of them at the same time. Thereby, the need of lightweight ciphers which provide adequate security, require less resources as well as incur low costs is growing by the day. So, we set our objective to the design of a lightweight block cipher which fulfils the above mentioned criteria.
It is, of course, a very challenging problem keeping in mind that the cipher designed has to be secure from all the known cryptanalytic attacks as well as light-weight. Moreover, being an M.Tech project, the time is also limited. We are, however, putting in a whole-hearted effort to get a good result.
