Description: Investigation of techniques for the segmentation and classification of hyper- spectral images (images in which a high dimensional data vector is available at each pixel). Our approach was to perform dimensionality reduction (using Principal Component Analysis and Projection Pursuit) followed by Markov Random Field based segmentation and classification. The classification may be supervised (in presence of groundtruth data) or unsupervised in its absence.

Description: Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) is a technique used by unmanned aerial and ground vehicles to build a map of their environment for auto- nomous navigation. As opposed to conventional approaches to SLAM centered on landmark/feature identification, we are instead investigating the possibility of building and using thematic maps as the primary input. We consider two kinds of sensors namely, optical and radar so that ground complexity can be analyzed accurately while taking observations. This approach is based on segmenting the multisource images based on Dempster-Shafer evidence theory in a Markovian context, followed by localization using Extended Kalman Filters/Particle Filters.
