Since my schooldays, I have been fascinated by the development aspect of Computer Science. In the last couple of years, however, after two fruitful research experiences in ETH Zurich and Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, I have been more inclined towards theoretical computer science. I love designing algorithms, especially graph algorithms. I like to solve real-world problems by mapping them into graphs. I wish to pursue a PhD in graph theory in the near future.
In my undergraduate studies, I have read several interesting papers and books on Algorithms and Graph Theory. Here are a few good books to look into:
Apart from graph theory, I am also interested in Game Theory, Computer Networks and Economics.
On any arbitrary day, you can find me doing any one of the following:
As you might have guessed, I like to explore the extra-curricular domain as well. To start off, I am decent enough quizzer. Technology quizzes are my speciality, although I can tag along in Business and Cultural Quizzes as well. I am currently the Captain of my Hall Quiz team. We also have an active quiz blog titled Quizito Ergo Sum.
I love watching movies, both Hindi and English, though I am riding on a policy of one Hindi movie a year at the moment. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is perched atop my list of favourite movies. The Silence of the Lambs, Saving Private Ryan and The Shawshank Redemption follow closely behind. This year, I was very impressed by Inception and The Social Network.Tom Hanks and Robert Downey Jr. are my favourite actors. On the Hindi front, my selection would have to be Lagaan, Chak de India, Kal Ho Naa Ho and Munnabhai MBBS. I also like to listen to selected Hindi and English songs. Linkin Park are my favourite band. I love the voice of Sonu Nigam with his rendition of Kal Ho Naa Ho being the best I have ever heard.I also like to review movies and maintain a blog as well. Although I do not freuqently update it, you can check it out here.
Football is my passion and if I were not a computer science graduate, I probably would have tried to play football professionally. I follow the EPL and La Liga very closely, with my whole-hearted support going to Manchester United(Fingers crossed for Rooney to score again). I also like to play cricket. I admire Sachin Tendulkar - perhaps the only person who cannot be emulated. Apart from these, I also like to play Chess, Table Tennis and go Bowling.
In my internships abroad, I have developed more 'adrenalic' hobbies like Bungee Jumping and White Water Rafting. Check out my Bungee Jump at Whistler this summer here. I also enjoyed the experience of cross country hiking and mountaineering in Canada. I completed the gruelling Grouse Grind trek in Vancouver. My first time at Laser Tagging was also a very memorable experience.
