Trip to CSE, IITKGP
The CSE building is geographically located near Gate Number 5 of the (old) academic area in the IIT campus at Kharagpur. Kharagpur is a small town situated about 115 kms away from the nearest megacity Kolkata (internationally known as Calcutta), the capital of the state West Bengal. Kharagpur has a big railway junction that serves as the gateway for journeys from the eastern to the southern part of the country. The Kharagpur railway station has the longest platform (1,072.50 meters) in the world.
If you plan to travel by air, come to the Calcutta airport which hosts both domestic and international terminals. You should then reach the Howrah railway station -- hiring a cab (taxi) costs you 200-250 Indian Rupees. There are many local and express trains (list here) running throughout the day to cover the enjoyable Howrah-to-Kharagpur stretch through the green paddy fields of the Ganges plain.
Go left to get out of the platform and take a rickshaw/auto-rickshaw/taxi to reach the IIT campus that is nearly 5 kms away from the station. Typically a rickshaw costs around 50 Rupees, an auto-rickshaw around 80 Rupees and a taxi around 120 Rupees. The academic area is very close to the main entrance (Puri Gate) of the campus.
Enjoy our beautiful campus.
