Towards a society of equal information opportunity for all

We have a dream - to develop and deploy `appropriate' and `affordable' information and communication technology and tools to empower the `other billion' to a better life. We identify communication barrier to be one of the major hurdles in bridging the digital divide.

The segment of people most adversely affected by the communication barrier include:
Rural neo-literates and pre-literates, who do not have access to socio-culture friendly educational material in their vernacular. Also, there do not exist proper interface agents (human or machines) who/that communicate `naturally' with them. Rural children who suffer from lack of educational infrastructure and access to the vast information on the internet available to their urban counterparts. Rural artisans, farmers, producers in cottage industries, tribal workers etc., who are unable to reach the wider world. Rural people in general, who are deprived of access to health care, information regarding law, agricultural information, educative health information etc. Millions of people with special needs, who are physically or mentally challenged, due to different types of impairments. They need special or remedial training methods and access to special equipments which are scarce and expensive.
