The congress is held every year by an autonomous body of the government
of India, namely the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA). This time it
was the 93rd congress being organized at the N G Ranga Agricultural University,
Hyderabad from 3rd to 7th of January, 2006.Scientists all over the world meet in the congress and there are multifarious events
including lectures by nobel laureates and emminent scientists, competitions for
the Young Scientist Award, paper and poster presentations and industrial

This time the congress was inaugurated by Dr. Manmohan Singh, the hon'ble
prime minister of India. The inaugaration was followed by nobel lecture delivered by Prof.
Amartya Sen.
